This polished brass compass is inlaid with rosewood and decorated with a variety of arcane symbols and runes. The ornate silver needle points toward the nearest visible creature or object within 30 feet that is affected by a spell or spell-like effect, or that is permanently enchanted (such as a magic item). The needle never points to yourself or any item you are holding or wearing. A small glass window affixed to the compass displays a glowing sigil to indicate the relevant school or schools of magic, if any.

The compass is blocked by 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt.
